Other tools

A simple collection of online tools for font subsetting, local tldraw whiteboards, Excalidraw boards, and Markdown mind maps, built with mature libraries and running in your browser.

Fonts, whiteboards, boards, and mind maps are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to a server.

Other tools

What this category is for

What lands here does not fit the categories above but runs locally just the same: three canvas tools; a whiteboard, a hand-drawn-style board and a mind map; plus a font subsetting tool.

Canvas content is stored in your browser, and font subsetting reads the font file into memory and cuts a subset out of it. Neither uploads anything.

Choosing between these tools

You want a board you can draw and stick notes on
Whiteboard is built on tldraw, with shapes, freehand drawing, sticky notes, images, multiple pages and export; good for working through a process or capturing a meeting as it happens.
You want the look of a sketch
Excalidraw Board produces hand-drawn strokes, which suits architecture sketches and explanatory diagrams: the deliberate roughness tells the reader this is a draft that will still change.
You want to organise a hierarchy
Mind Map is built on Mind Elixir, edits the node tree directly, and exports to a Markdown outline you can carry on writing in a document.
You want a smaller web font
Font Subset pulls only the characters you specify out of a TTF or WOFF, producing a far smaller font. CJK fonts run to several megabytes; embedding only the few dozen glyphs actually used typically brings that down to tens of kilobytes.

Formats and capabilities compared

All three canvas tools exist to get an idea drawn, but they suit different stages; and the wrong one misleads the reader about your intent.

ToolData structureVisual styleStage it suits
WhiteboardFree canvas with no enforced relationshipsClean vectorDiagrams and meeting records that should look finished
Excalidraw BoardFree canvas with grouping and layer orderHand-drawnDraft stage, where deliberate roughness invites changes
Mind MapA tree; every node has one parentStructured node treeClear hierarchical breakdowns, exportable to Markdown
Font SubsetNot a canvas tool; it processes font files: Reducing web font payload

Limits that apply across this category

Canvas content lives in browser local storage, so clearing browsing data, switching browsers or moving to another device makes it disappear. Export anything you care about to a file.

Font subsetting is bounded by licensing. Not every font may be redistributed or embedded in a web page, so check the licence terms before processing a commercial font; technically possible is not the same as permitted.

Frequently asked questions

Do these tools upload my content?
No. The whiteboard, mind map, font subsetting and more all run locally in your browser, so content is never uploaded.
What tools are included?
A whiteboard, an Excalidraw hand-drawn board, a mind map and a font subsetting tool, among others.
Are these tools free?
Yes. Every tool is free to use without an account and runs directly in your browser.
Are whiteboard and mind map contents saved to the cloud?
No. Content is edited and kept locally in your browser and never uploaded to the cloud; export it yourself to keep it long-term.
